Oil Spills and Why They Happen:
An oil spill is when liquid petroleum leaks into the environment due to human activity. Oil spills are considered a form of pollution. There are several different types of oil spills, however the most well known are marine oil spills. The reason that oil spills occur is when someone makes a mistake, or is not paying close enough attention, and oil spills into the ocean. Some examples of how this could happen are an oil tanker goes into shallow water and hits the bottom, ripping a hole in the ship and releasing oil. Also in some cases warring countries or terrorists will purposely release oil to draw attention to themselves. Finally, natural disasters can be the cause of oil spills. No matter what the cause, oil spills have a negative affect on not only the economics of a country, but also the environment.
